Indignation
This morning's daylight didn't break;
my eyes awoke to blue and grey.
My back slept on in stubborn ache.
I could not throw my sheet away
but clutched to warmth and comfort in
the womb where worried faces lay.
I felt no reason to begin
what swore to be a dreadful day.
Last night I slept for sleeping's sake;
I could not throw despair away.
Dawn never came but light did break:
a single, penetrating ray.
my eyes awoke to blue and grey.
My back slept on in stubborn ache.
I could not throw my sheet away
but clutched to warmth and comfort in
the womb where worried faces lay.
I felt no reason to begin
what swore to be a dreadful day.
Last night I slept for sleeping's sake;
I could not throw despair away.
Dawn never came but light did break:
a single, penetrating ray.

Nice. I like what you did with the lines about sleeping for sleeping's sake and the penetrating ray. Very clever.
